Why this technical session?

We have seen people spend years working on a handstand press without progress. Their training lacks an understanding of the strength requirements of the skill, and time is spent on repeated attempts rather than developing the positions that make the press possible.

In practice, a handstand press is primarily a strength skill that depends on developing strength in specific positions.

This technical session looks at the mechanics behind pressing and how the skill can be trained more effectively.


This session is for you if:

  • You have been working on handstands & calisthenics and want to expand on your skillset
  • You have been trying to press to handstand but are unable to progress
  • You want a clearer understanding of the mechanics and strength requirements behind a press
  • You want to identify what might be limiting your press progress
  • You want to train on the press more effectively with a clearer framework

  • The difference between low & high presses
  • Why pressing strength develops differently across individuals
  • The key training requirements for pressing to handstand
  • Guided training of essential press drills
