Handstand Intensives
with Khazu Chan The techniques, shapes and poses to be studied and practiced all originate from the traditional performance art form, Mongolian Contortion and hand balancing. We will be honing in on and extensively applying drills that further the handstand. The goal is to increase overall endurance and the vocabulary of shapes in one’s handstand practice. This will also include better comprehension and ease while working on blocks and canes. *Pre-requisite: A stable free-standing handstand. Born in the Philippines and raised in the United States, Kevin Khazu Chan (@khazu89) is an internationally established canes, contortion and handstand performer and coach. A graduate of the New England Center for Circus Arts’ (NECCA) 3-year ProTrack program, Khazu has since gone on to perform professionally in the USA, Europe and Asia. Khazu’s performance credits include roles in Cirque du Soleil’s One Drop Charity Show, Voyage de la Vie, the inaugural production at the Resorts World Theatre, Singapore, Queen of The Night at the Paramount Hotel, NYC, NY, Franco Dragone’s Land of Legends, and a featured part in the smash-hit feature film The Greatest Showman. Khazu currently tours around the globe with circus performance company Les Farfadais in their show, AirOtic. An accomplished handstand and contortion coach, Khazu received further training in Mongolian Contortion under Angelique (Erdenechimeg) Janov in Las Vegas. In 2016, Khazu began studying at the X-Roses Contortion Centre, Mongolia, receiving full Mongolian Contortion coach certification in 2018. Khazu currently resides in New York City, NY, where he maintains an active private coaching practice. He has been teaching regular contortion and handstands classes at the Circus Warehouse, NYC, since 2013. Khazu also regularly travels to Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore, where he gives workshops and private coaching sessions. |
